Study the rate of Global Change in the recent past by combining the
study of climate proxies associated or incorporated with authigenic carbonate, with
timing information based on Uranium-series disequilibrium data.

Theoretical
modelling of dynamic melt generation processes from a Uranium-series disequilibrium
perspective and the consequences for trace element variation patterns in continental
alkali basalts, and plume related basalts from intra-plate and mid-ocean ridge environments.

Uranium-series
disequilibrium, long-lived isotope and trace element study of magmatism in the Taupo
volcanic field in New Zealand and Toba on Sumatra. Both feature recent super-volcano
eruptions and understanding the rate of magma-chamber evolution processes from detailed
study crystals that were growing over extended periods, may lead to the development
of new hazard monitoring strategies for these particularly devastating volcanic eruptions.

Pre-eruptive
processes, concentrating on gas generation and transport processes and the information
available from radiogenic isotopes with half-lifes of days to months.

Dating
of archaeological bone for palaeo-anthropology, using the diffusion-adsorption model
and U-series disequilibrium data.

Multi-collector,
thermal ionisation and ICP ionisation mass spectrometry, full dissolution and purification
chemistry, Excimer laser ablation

Recent Publications:

Hughes,
