This paper provides an interim report on the experiences and lessons of Building on
History: the Church in London. This 'knowledge transfer' project has aimed to integrate
academic research and contemporary religion, involving historians of religion and
practitioners from the Anglican Diocese of London. It examines the potentialities
and pitfalls of such engagement, arguing that this approach to public religious history
can both develop the critical historicised self-understanding of a religious institution
and inform the research of scholars. Overall, it suggests that knowlege exchange can
contribute towards greater understanding between historians and their religious subjects. |
