This paper looks at the way in which published translations are used in the context
of the Open University course, Continuing Classical Greek, to enhance students' study
of the language, to allow students to make connections across the curriculum and to
reinforce the relevance of language acquisition to their studies as a whole. Working
with translations in different ways - using parallel texts, comparing translations,
considering translation theory - not only allows students more efficiently to use
their language skills across their studies but also encourages them to engage with
the Greek texts themselves at a deeper level. |
