<p>Dr Jewitt completed her PhD at University of Glasgow’s School of Education
in using virtual reality for work-based learning in SMEs.</p><p>Research activities
are in Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL), learners' experiences and uses of technology
in learning, mobile learning environments, computer supported collaborative learning
(CSCL), learning in virtual, augmented and mixed reality.</p><p>Jewitt has much experience
in real world research in a range of contexts and has carried out pioneering research,
working with local councils to develop an alternative education system for young people
excluded from school.</p><p>Jewitt was appointed a Digital Learning Fellowship by
The Education and Training Foundation leading a transformational project to develop
and implement a digital learning strategy, for delivery of vocational education of
the future.Jewitt explored specific areas for the application of digital learning
and also supporting the wider adoption of good practice in the sector.</p><p>Jewitt
is a course writer and worked with The Open University International Development Office
and NESTA in a project to develop ground-breaking innovation learning through a first
of its kind modular curriculum on innovation tools and methods</p><p>If you are interested

the potential of social networking tools for teaching and learner support.</p><p>Moodle
tester for the PROWE project (The Open University) February– June 2006</p><p>PROWE
was a research project that addressed the challenge of supporting part-time distance
education tutors' continuing professional development (CPD) needs, including collaboration
and resource sharing, through the provision of informal and personal repositories
created using wiki and wiki-type environments. Wiki and blogs were used to engage
the tutors within the context of two large distance education providers, The Open
University (OU) and The University of Leicester (UoL).</p> |

<p>Dr Katharine Jewitt is a Research Fellow and Educational Technology Consultant
at The Open University. Katharine works across four faculties (Faculty of Wellbeing,
Education& Language Studies, Faculty for Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics,
Faculty of Business and Law and The Centre for Inclusion and Collaborative Partnership)
and teaches at access, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.</p><p>Dr Jewitt works
for The Open University’s Teaching and Learning Centre and International Development
Office in a consulting capacity. She also works as a Mentor for FutureLearn and is
a Producer Editor for OpenLearn Works. She mentors staff to achieve Fellowship status
for Advance HE. Katharine works widely across the UK, UAE and Africa in curriculum
development and delivery; from the initial inception of an idea through to design,
development, production and delivery. Previously, Katharine was Director of Teaching,
Learning Curriculum and Quality at Prospects College of Advanced Technology and has
held senior positions in industry, including DHL, Exel and Fujitsu.</p> |
