My main area of involvement has been in Mobile technologies and learning in general, with a particular emphasis on the mobile web, analytics and demographics of use. Data-driven and user influenced learning design is also a key interrelated area.</p><p>A recurring interest when time allows is in practice-based learning and international development in education.</p>

a82f49d3e573ce04b8f645be83fe968a biography <p><strong>In brief</strong></p><p>Having recently acted up to a Programme Manager role for a successful change to our teaching provision, and a portfolio of<span>transitional</span>work for our real-time collaboration, I&#39;m now back to my substantive role as a Senior Product Development Manager. In my diverse roles, I&rsquo;ve been classed as a change agent, client, supplier and sometime* project manager, and now product owner - with an interest in how mobile, collaborative and cloud technologies converge to truly support learning anytime, anywhere. I&rsquo;m an educational technologist with a background in Science/IT teaching and Information Engineering&ndash; crossing the country to MK from rural Wales, via the English South coast.</p><p><sup><em>* [for which read a focus more on requirements, functionality and user experience, rather than process]</em></sup></p><p><strong>My job</strong></p><p>The projects managed by the Learning Systems team in&nbsp;the&nbsp;Learning Experience and Technology [LXT] portfolio&nbsp;are broad, and with high strategic impact, currently including a remit to oversee our OUVLE [an LMS, primarily Moodle] and related plugin components. As such, I cover the following strands of the roadmap:</p><ul><li>Leadership, advice and strategic input to a number of projects and programmes in preparation, awaiting full approval to proceed as part of our learning platforms.</li><li>Real-time collaboration&ndash; mainstreaming the direction and management of the cross-university implementation programme, having transitioned to Adobe Connect for our online rooms, from our previous<em>&quot;OU Live&quot;</em>platform, powered by Blackboard Collaborate.</li></ul><p>To a lesser extent, I&#39;m still the subject-matter expert and specialist&nbsp;for longer-term areas I managed:</p><ul><li>Google Apps for Education (now G Suite)&nbsp;&nbsp;&ndash; where I chaired the Steering Group and lead the student and curriculum pilots into mainstreaming; ePortfolio toolset initiatives also inter-relate here. Office365 is replacing some of this early work</li><li>Mobile web&ndash; where I initiated part of the Mobile Strategy, and&lsquo;mobisite&lsquo; for practitioners, also promoting the Mobile VLE (through Moodle), mobile services and support across the OU. I&nbsp;was responsible for support&amp; maintenance of the<em>OU Anywhere</em>app, while in IT - soon to be replaced by the OU Study app</li><li>[Student] User Interface&ndash; where I have a specific focus on user-generated content, accessibility, annotation and in peer sharing of rich media</li></ul><p>My particular interests are in Mobile Learner support, where I have coordinated a number of activities including mobile web optimisation and responsive design, mobile apps and special interest groups. My main efforts are with external partners&ndash; both large-scale in the case of Google, Blackboard and now Adobe, and smaller efforts&nbsp;with MoodleCloud, Moodlerooms, PebblePad,&nbsp;and Learnosity in earlier days.</p><p>A related interest of mine is in synchronous and cloud collaboration, where I also had the role of lead champion for Elluminate, Blackboard Collaborate, and now Adobe Connect to a lesser extent. Finally, I have a keen interest in staff development, including regional/national participation and hands-on activities made possible via the onsite Digilab facilities.</p>
