biography |
<p>Dr Lorraine Hudson BSc(Hons) PhD FHEA FRSA</p><p><span>I'm a multidisciplinary
researcher based within the School of Computing& Communications. The main focus
of my research is working with communities to address sustainable development
challenges through the application of digital technologies, participatory design
approaches and open education. I'm also working with the OU Business School on
place-based leadership in Smart Cities.</span><br /><br /><span>I manage the Smart
Cities Course which was part funded by HEFCE as part of the education work package
of MK:Smart, a£16 million collaborative Smart City Initiative in Milton
Keynes. I am the Co-author and Lead Educator for the course, which is hosted on two
platforms:</span><br /><br /><span>•<a href="https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/smart-cities"
rel="nofollow">Smart Cities MOOC (Massive Open Online Course)</a> - 6 week
facilitated course hosted on FutureLearn. Since it was launched in over 36,000
people have registered for the course. </span><br /><span>•<a href="http://www.open.edu/openlearn/science-maths-technology/smart-cities/content-section-overview">Smart
Cities Badged Course</a> - 8 week course hosted on OpenLearn. </span><br
/><br /><span>My research related to the MOOC has included<a href="http://oro.open.ac.uk/46951/">Smart
Cities MOOC: Teaching citizens how to co-create smart cities</a> and<a href="http://oro.open.ac.uk/50900/">Mining
a MOOC to examine international views of the“Smart City”</a> . MK:Smart
ended in June 2017 but having secured funding from the Department for Business, Energy&
Industrial Strategy (UK Government) the courses will continue to run until 2020. </span><br
/><br /><span>I worked as Research Consultant on the SmartDFrame project in 2015/16
conducting research on city approaches to the evaluation of smart city projects and
programmes. The results were published in the report<a href="http://oro.open.ac.uk/46008/">A
Tale of Evaluation and Reporting in UK Smart Cities</a>.</span></p><p><span>I've
worked for over 18 years in the sustainability sector in academia, local government
and business and consultancy. I currently work part-time for the OU and freelance
on smart cities and sustainability through Hudson Sustainability Consulting. I'm
also a Visiting Fellow in Future Cities at the University of Bristol in the Department
of Computer Science. </span></p> |
