<p>My current research falls into two areas:</p><h5>War, conflict& visuality</h5><p>This
has to date focused principally on the War on Terror, see the book<a href="http://www.palgrave.com/products/title.aspx?PID=283968"><em>Re-Imagining
the War on Terror: seeing, waiting, travelling</em></a>.</p><p>I'm now working
on how the relationship between visuality and conflict has developed and altered historically,
as well as broader questions of war and aesthetics.</p><h5>Scopic economies& the
act of seeing</h5><p>I'm currently developing work on the act of seeing - the
experience of seeing from an embodied, first person perspective - and how a focus
upon this act opens up new perspectives on political, socio-cultural and economic
life.</p><p>At present my focus is upon the early modern period. In part this work
is addressed towards specific events, including the Field of the Cloth of Gold and
the peak of the Dutch tulip boom (1636-1637). At the same time it's concerned
with how the act of seeing has been distributed and organised more broadly, in the
form of what I call'scopic economics'. Initial studies of the latter include
the reign of Henry VIII, the Italian Renaissance city state, the Dutch Republic and
the Venetian Carnevale.</p><p><em>Re-Imagining the War on Terror: seeing, waiting,
