research overview |
<p>My particularly areas of interest are learning in practice, accessing the‘child’s/
young person’s voice directly and childhood, particularly children with additional
needs. Recently, I was a co-researcher into the role of OU Programme Tutors in supporting
learning in practice.</p><p>Areas of research I wish to pursue are:'Impact of
health interventions on school attendance in children with long term health/ disability
issues’'Employer perspectives; fitness to practise of OU nurse registrants''Academic

biography |
<p>I am Assistant Head (Nursing), Professional& Practice Lead within the Department
of Nursing in the Faculty of Health& Social Care at The Open University (OU).
I have been involved in health care for 40 years, am a qualified nurse lecturer and
hold registration in both adult and children’s nursing. My MSc focussed on management
for professionals. I started my health care practice in the North West as a‘cadet
nurse’ and has worked in clinical practice in both the private and public sector
across the North West and South West of England. My academic role has spanned
pre and post qualifying education initially in schools of nursing progressing to universities
in Liverpool and London. I worked for the then English National Board for nursing,
midwifery and health visiting (ENB) for 10 years as an education officer before undertaking
consultancy work and then a post with the OU. I have been involved in a range of initiatives
at national, regional and local level including the Nursing& Midwifery Review
of pre-registration nursing education. My current remit spans the United
Kingdom and is primarily concerned with professional issues including fitness to practice.</p> |
