59790 abstract There is considerable preliminary evidence that virtual environments are highly effective for allowing participants to internalise data and acquire new understanding. However little principled empirical work appears to have been carried out on the effectiveness of virtual reality in environments for such purposes. A systematic approach is explored to the study of the effectiveness of virtual environments for studying change in students' mental models of motion.
