1923 abstract Since the early 1990s there has been an explosion in the use of discourse analysis in management studies. Whilst the notion of discourse has seduced many a qualitative researcher it is also acknowledged that this field of study is fraught with methodological and epistemological problems. Loose definition, diversity and richness constitute the field, and its territory has only recently been mapped in any systematic sense (Keenoy, Oswick and Grant, 1997; Alvesson and Karreman, 2000).
